American Sniper (2014)

Clint Eastwood has shown his audience that he can finally direct again! Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper) was born and raised in Texas. All he wanted to do was become a cowboy when he got older. After watching the 9/11 attacks on television, everything changed for Kyle. He wanted to go to war and fight for his country. He became one of the best and most dangerous Navy Seal’s there ever was to this day. Kyle has a record of 160 confirmed kills. He is the most lethal sniper the United States has ever had. Once Kyle returns home from his tours, the little things start really bothering him. Being in the war really messed with his head and it shows when he is home and out of the house. Someone mowing a lawn could startle him.

Every year it seems like there is some type of war movie that is released to theaters. American Sniper is one that did it right. Bradley Cooper has become a world-class actor over the last ten years. Cooper has been in comedy movies and also some serious drama roles. American Sniper however, is Cooper’s best role he has been in. This role required Cooper to gain 30 pounds of muscle to his body. Kyle’s wife Taya (Sienna Miller) see’s him go through all these different emotional obstacles every time he returns home from one of his tours.

American Sniper is a film that will have you on the edge of your seat from the opening scene to. the very end of the movie. Taya is very upset with Kyle throughout the movie because now that they have a family she does not want him to keep going back for more tours. Kyle understood where she was coming from, but he only had one more thing to do in Iraq and that was to eliminate the deadly sniper that has been taking out all of the American soldiers. The deadly battle between the two snipers runs through a good portion of the film.

Eastwood has shown fine directing in this uplifting war movie. We all know that Eastwood has made his fair share of crap in the past few years, but American Sniper is a movie that makes you forget about all that. Eastwood shows what should have been an Oscar worthy nomination for Best Director. This is definitely not a movie that liberals or the liberal media will like. This has a lot of killings in it. American Sniper aims to entertain its audience, but it goes on to hit something that is much more deeper. The story of Chris Kyle is inspiring as well as tragic, and no one will ever forget what good he did for our country.

Overall, American Sniper was a movie of both excitement and tragedy. This definitely affects you in someway after watching this and if you are in for a fun and chilling ride, I definitely recommend giving it a look.

Grade= B+ (Very Good!)
