Coldplay Philadelphia, PA Wells Fargo Center

What a night! Sitting there eagerly awaiting to see one of the best bands around today, Coldplay! This was a hot summer night in July of 2012. When the lights went out, Coldplay just knew what the audience at the Wells Fargo Center wanted to hear. That was the very famous, Back To The Future theme song. They came to Philadelphia on their Mylo Xyloto World Tour. They played in Philadelphia for two straight nights. I was fortunate enough to attend the second show, which I believe is the better one to go to. Every time a band comes for two nights, they usually give more effort into playing on the second night.

As soon as Coldplay came out and played the intro to the album, “Mylo Xyloto” (which is also the title of the album) the whole entire atmosphere of the Wells Fargo Center became electric. Before you walked into the doors of the arena, the door people handed you a wristband. No one knew what it was for, but everyone just said okay and went along with it. Before Coldplay came on, the jumbo screen gave a message saying for everyone to put on their wristbands because it would be a part of the show. I had no idea what to think, but as soon as that first song started, all the wristbands in the arena lit up with different colors and it was going along to the music. This brought the crowd to an absolute shock (but in a good way).

Not only did Coldplay have song after song that had the whole audience singing in key, but they had more of a show than most bands do. The constant confetti and things like beach balls going around the whole audience just made it better. You would have thought it was an encore at the start of the show, that’s how unbelievable this show was.

The setlist was awesome and everyone knew every song by heart so they were all singing. Chris Martin actually said, “last night was a rehearsal for tonight.” The crowd loved hearing that. Almost 2 hours into the show and it was time for the encore. The band played two songs in the stands in the lower 100 level of the arena and then the final two songs on the main stage. Finishing the night with “Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall,” which was the perfect song to end the show with. Everyone was pretty overwhelmed after leaving that show.

Overall, Coldplay put on a show that was like no other show I have ever seen! I definitely think people should check them out when they come back. After their last concert here, I absolutely wouldn’t miss them for the world.

Concert Rating: 10/10 (Must Attend!)
