After everything that took place in the second Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen, (Jennifer Lawrence) now has a lot on her plate to digest. She was taken in by District 13 and given the task to fight against the Capital and their leader, President Snow (Donald Sutherland). Katniss does not mind doing this, but there are a lot of deals that go along with it. President of District 13, Coin (Julianne Moore) wants her to be seen as the face of the new rebellion against the Capital so people will see her and want to join. Also, Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) was kidnapped by the Capital in the last Hunger Games. Snow seems to be using him as a way to get Katniss to stop the rebellion.
Mockingjay – Part 1 is obviously the movie that was made to prepare you for an awesome ending to what was a great and successful film franchise. Having said that, this is a movie that was completely unnecessary to make. In comparison to the first two, it’s the one you try to forget about, but as I said, it’s setting it up for a grand finale! This is a movie that killed it in the box office and that is simply the reason it was made. With all the success the first two films had, it was without question that Mockingjay would bring in millions.
Mockingjay – Part 1 does what it can to provide the amount of anticipation for the finale, but it falls short of doing so. This is definitely a movie that could have been a lot better. If you are a Hunger Games fan, you will understand how disappointing this was. Mockingjay- Part 2 will be released in theaters in November of 2015. This will be a lot better than Part 1. I just felt as if nothing exciting was happening. It was a whole lot of preparing for how they are going to take down the Capital. This was definitely not the Hunger Games that we are used to.
For a while you can say this movie is enjoyable, but then you just come to understand that this is nothing but a cash grab. It leaves you disappointed with the lack of action it has. This was predestined to not satisfy you in any way. Really, nothing much happens at all. Once those credits start rolling, all the disappointment piles up in your head of what could have been a better start to a great finale.
Overall, Mockingjay – Part 1 is certainly not the Hunger Games we are used to. Quite frankly its fairly boring. You keep waiting for something awesome to start happening and it just never gets there. If you are a fan of the Hunger Games and have seen the other two, it’s a necessity that you watch this, but know that this is something that will disappoint you.
