Jaws (1975)

Let’s all go swimming in the ocean! Here’s a film that might just be my favorite movie of all time. It’s the start of a new summer on Amity Island and that means the beaches will be packed. When Sheriff Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) discovers the remains of a woman who was killed in a shark attack, he decides to close the beaches. This causes a major problem with the people. They do not think it is necessary to close the beaches. Chief Brody, against his own will, agrees to let the beaches stay open. This really back fired on the people and the mayor (Murray Hamilton). Shortly after the killing of a couple more people, we meet Quint (Robert Shaw) and Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss). Brody, Hooper, and Quint go out on Quint’s boat to catch this man-eating predator. There’s one problem, “They’re going to need a bigger boat.”

Jaws is an instant classic. This will forever be one of the greatest motion pictures of all time. This is just a movie that is 100% perfect. I can’t seem to find one negative thing to write about this movie. I have seen this movie so many times, that I am able to recite most of the lines. Even the score of the film is so suspenseful and insane that it just gives me the chills thinking about it. Hearing that music when the shark is coming is one of the greatest things ever. John Williams will forever be the master of film scores.

This is a movie that is one of the most effective thrillers ever made. When Jaws came out in 1975 it had people afraid to go in the ocean for years. At the time it was horrifying. This is a movie that put Steven Spielberg on the map. After Jaws became such a major summer blockbuster, Spielberg went on to make many great films. The acting in this movie is excellent. Robert Shaw stole the movie. He was an absolute scene stealer with every scene he was in. How could we ever forget his scenes of yelling at Hooper and calling him an idiot. Those are classic! Richard Dreyfuss is also someone who is very underrated in this movie. His portrayal of Matt Hooper was phenomenal. As far as Roy Scheider goes, he was outstanding as Chief Brody.

Jaws is a movie that demands multiple viewings! If you are someone who has never seen this movie then don’t ever associate with me until you do. I wouldn’t be able to have a conversation with you knowing that you haven’t seen what may be the best movie of all time. Jaws is just such a classic. Everything about this movie is excellent. Every summer my uncle and I watch this down the shore. I even watched it on the Spanish channel before.

Overall, Jaws is a film that you have to watch. I can’t express enough how good this movie is. Enough with my rambling on about this. Just watch it if you haven’t seen it.

Grade= A (Excellent! A Must See!)

    Robert Shaw was a force of nature and his monologue in Jaws is one of my favourite scenes ever. I get goosebumps thinking about it.

    “Mr Hooper that is The U.S.S. Indianapolis”
