American Hustle (2013)

Here’s one that come out last year that’s a great movie watching experience. Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale) and Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) are at a pool and see each other from a distance. They immediately knew they were a match made in heaven. Even though Irving had a wife (Jennifer Lawrence) and a young son back home, Sydney didn’t care. That’s how into Irving she was. Irving is having an affair with Sydney and also running a business to scam people for their money. One day while Irving is plotting how he will scam another customer, a man by the name of Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper) comes in and it seems like he’s the fool that will be scammed this time. It turns out that Richie was a FBI agent investigating Irving and his business. Irving has only one option: go to jail or help the FBI take down some very important people who take bribes.

American Hustle is a film that was one of the best of the year. Director, David O. Russel was really on his game with this. He is just continuing to impress everyone with his list of movies. They just seem to get better and better each time. Not only was the cast a real treat to watch with all the big time actors in this one, but he gave us something that could have possibly been a best picture winner. David O. Russel is now the director where when I hear his name or read about him I become excited. He’s on the path to becoming the Scorsese of this time, which takes a lot for me to say given that Scorsese is my favorite.

This is just a movie that is as perfect as they come. I absolutely loved the script and I think the actors deserve all the credit for this because it was in fact a little crazy and they made it work with all the talent they brought to the table. American Hustle has a great plot and ending that was very unexpected. There was about five minutes in the movie where Robert De Niro made an appearance. This was probably one of the best scenes of the movie. He proved that he can play any role.

American Hustle gave us a great soundtrack. Think of all the best music from the 70’s and some of it is most likely in this movie. Again, the Academy loves to make me angry and snub movies. The fact that David O. Russel didn’t win best director is a disgrace to me. That man can direct! I feel like the Academy does this to me on purpose.

Overall, American Hustle is one of the top films of 2013 and the best directed film for David O. Russel. This movie gives us a lot of enjoyment and some comedy. I highly recommend adding this to your watch list.

Grade= A (Excellent! A Must See!)
