Here’s a movie that has been out for a little over a month that I just watched. We meet four vampires that share a flat together. Viago (Taika Waititi), Vladislav (Jemaine Clement), Deacon (Jonathan Brugh), and Petyr (Ben Fransham). These four vampires have a major problem, they do not know how to get along with each other. Each night all the vampires go out and about looking for fresh blood. Petyr can never go out with them because he is 8,000 years old. They can not go out during the day because that is when they sleep and they cannot be in the sunlight. Sunlight is very lethal to vampires. The vampires do have a human servant to get all of their victims for them. Her name is Jackie (Jackie van Beek). Jackie decides to bring her ex-boyfriend, Nick (Cori Gonzalez-Macuer) over to the flat, so all the vampires can drink his blood, but he tries to escape and Petyr turns him into a vampire. A lot more problems start to come into play because werewolves then show up.
First off, I went into seeing What We Do In The Shadows with moderate expectations. I knew it would be pretty funny because it is the same guys who brought us the show from HBO, Flight Of The Conchords. I have to say, this movie absolutely made me laugh my ass off. I loved everything about this. The whole idea of Jemaine Clement playing a vampire had me cracking up before I even watched the movie. I think that guy is absolutely hysterical in everything he is in. Out of all the comedy/horror films that are made, which are usually pretty horrible, What We Do In The Shadows is probably the best one I have seen.
I loved the cast in this movie. I thought everyone was excellent and hilarious. They were an absolute treat to watch in this. All of them cracked me up in every scene. What We Do In The Shadows is directed and written by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi. I thought this movie was very well-directed and written. These guys are absolutely fantastic and I can’t wait to see if they decide to do anything else in the future. I really hope they do because this movie was an absolute riot that kept you laughing from start to finish. I would definitely say this is now one of my favorite comedies of the past few years.
What We Do In The Shadows is the best comedy I have seen this year so far and I think it will be hard to beat. This is definitely a movie that I plan on re-watching. Just think of how funny Flight Of The Conchords was. This movie is way funnier than that. This is just a very smart and downright funny film. I loved the whole idea of this movie. It was a very hilarious way of showing real life vampires trying to cope themselves in the human world. Everyone in the movie did an excellent job of portraying that.
Overall, What We Do In The Shadows is an absolute laugh out loud riot that keeps you humored and entertained throughout. This is definitely a movie that you will want to watch more than once. I definitely recommend giving this one a look.
