We meet Amy (Amy Schumer), a young Journalist who seems to have everything going for her in life. She does, however, drink all the time and smoke pot all the time. This is pretty much how she spends every night of her adult life. She always ends up going home with someone different, but refuses to spend the night. Her father, Gordon (Colin Quinn), had her understand from a very young age that monogamy is not realistic. Amy loves the way her life is, but understands that she is in a serious rut. Amy thinks that she will never find happiness in life and this is all she has. This all starts to change when Amy is writing a story about a sports doctor, Dr. Aaron Connors (Bill Hader). Amy really starts falling for Aaron and they form a serious relationship. It is really a tough transition for Amy to clean up her act and be the perfect girl who Aaron deserves.
Many of the romantic comedies that are made today often are dull, stupid, and most of all incredibly predictable. I really do not think there are all that many great romantic comedies. I can say that with Trainwreck, it exceeds all expectations in that genre and is easily one of the most enjoyable movies of this year and possibly even Judd Apatow’s best movie so far. This film is absolutely hysterical and it is one I have been looking forward to seeing for a very long time. I have always been a very big fan of Amy Schumer and I knew this one was going to be a home run. I thought the writing for this movie was the best part. Amy’s character was written so well that everything was just falling right in place and when it was just her, it was some of the best scenes of the movie, by far.
I thought the acting in Trainwreck is pretty incredible. I knew Amy Schumer was hilarious, but I had no idea she was capable of actually being a great actress. She was absolutely the perfect person to play this role because a lot of her humor is kind of based on things like this. Amy Schumer is now going to be the big actress that you see in a lot of new movies. She has always been pretty well-known, but she is becoming much more popular with her new show and also this movie. Bill Hader was even pretty awesome in this. I have always liked him and the chemistry you see between himself and Amy is pretty great. They really crushed this one and I would love to see them together in some more stuff.
The only negative thing that I can say about this movie is that with all Apatow movies, they are a tad overlong, but you look past that very quickly because of how good this movie actually is. It was very smart, funny, and incredibly entertaining. I really loved Schumer’s character in this and I think that with Amy and Apatow working together on this one, it really made it all that much better. I really believe that this is Apatow’s best work so far and I hope to see him and Schumer do some more film or television together. I think many new people are going to now know who Amy Schumer is and really take a liking to her. This is definitely one I highly recommend you go see in theaters.
Overall, Trainwreck is a hilarious, vulgar, and a downright entertaining movie that really surprises its audience. It is well-acted and incredibly well-written. Two thumbs way up from me!
