I think I missed my career calling as a DJ. Young Cole Carter (Zac Efron) is someone who loves music and making music. He has hopes and reams of one day hitting it big as a DJ. He spends his nights like any ordinary twenty-three year old that isn’t in college. He hangs out with his buddies all day and then comes home and begins to work on making some new tracks. He believes all that it will take is that one track to make it big. Opportunity arises when he meets big time disc jockey, James Reed (Wes Bentley). James sees something special in Cole and together they start making some tracks. Their friendship then starts to jeopardizes when Cole becomes interested in James girlfriend, Sophie (Emily Ratjkowski). This not only jeopardizes his friendship, but also the future that Cole may or may not have as a DJ.
This was just an all-around terrible movie. There was really nothing about this movie that I liked and I feel like it was incredibly boring, over-the-top and unbelievable from start to finish. There was just nothing that was interesting or even the slightest bit entertaining. It has been quite a while since I listened to this kind of music and I feel like even if I was still listening to it, I would hate the movie just as much. This is just another one of those inspirational movies to get people to follow their dreams and to be honest, it made me want to not go anywhere near being a DJ. I believe that this is going to be one of the worst movies of the year and you’ll understand why if you see this.
The acting in this was just simply horrendous. I was really a fan of Zac Efron in Neighbors, but in We Are Your Friends, he is just horrific. I’m not even going to just bash him for this movie. The only good actor was Wes Bentley and I have nothing bad to say about him because he kept me going throughout the entire film. If it wasn’t for him, this movie wouldn’t even be theatre worthy in my opinion. I understand that we are slowly getting back into the groove of good movies, but this was just a complete travesty. No if’s, ands, or buts! Nobody in this movie even had me interested in the least bit. There were no exciting or fun characters at all. All these characters do are leave you in pure boredom.
My main issue with We Are Your Friends is that it has no idea where it wants to go and also what kind of movie it wants to be. This movie just goes all over the place and you have no idea if it is a drama or just a movie about partying and drugs. They say this a movie that is trying to inspirer people to follow their dreams, but it falls short of that. It was very hard to get that message when the movie was so bad. This movie took somewhat of a solid idea and turned it into something that makes you want to rip your eyes out. This is one that I absolutely, positively do not recommend you go see, but if you do, know you have been warned!
Overall, We are Your Friends is nothing, but a travesty. Even though Wes Bentley was good in this, it could not save it from being a complete and total disaster. This is one that is a must skip!
Grade= D- (Terrible!)
