Goosebumps (2015)

Young Zach Cooper (Dylan Minnette) is moving to a new town in Delaware with his mother, Gale (Amy Ryan). After the death of Zach’s father, Gale feels like the two of them need a change of scenery. Zach does not think he will be able to make it in Delware, until he meets his next-door neighbor, Hannah (Odeya Rush). Once Zach meets Hannah’s father (Jack Black), it is quite clear that there is something off about her family. It turns out that Hannah’s father turns out to be R.L. Stine, the famous author of the best-selling “Goosebumps” series. One night Zach accidentally unleashes all the monsters from the books and it is up to Zach, Hannah and Stine to  get these monsters back into their books, even if that means someone may not be able to stay in the real world.

I have to say that it is about time a movie was made from these books. Goosebumps is a really fun family movie that everyone can enjoy. Being a fan of the books my whole life, I knew I would really enjoy this movie. This is a really funny and entertaining movie about the monsters that R.L. Stine has created for everybody. You cannot really go into this movie expecting all that much, but I think that you will really be pleasantly surprised at what you get from this. The main thing about this is that it absolutely fulfills what it was made to do. That is, make you laugh and entertained. This can also be a new, fun Halloween flick to watch around this time of the year.

The acting in this is pretty solid. Jack Black is back in his element as a goofy role, but he pulls it off. Everyone else is so-so, but it does not even matter all that much. The movie itself is still very entertaining. Anyone who is a fan of Jack Black, you will absolutely enjoy this one. It seems like he has kind of fallen off the map as of late, but he’s definitely back with Goosebumps and gives another performance that everyone will enjoy. He really brought R.L. Stine’s character to life in this one. There is something about Goosebumps that is always pleasant to watch. You will never be bored and you will always be satisfied.

I am not going to sit here and say that Goosebumps is a masterpiece, but it is really enjoyable. Is it the best film I’ve seen this year so far? Absolutely not, but it is still one that is enjoyable and pleasant to watch. What you get from this movie is a simple, family friendly film that makes everyone happy. This is not really a horror film because it is made for kids, but it still does have its fair share of frights. The best thing about this movie is that I made the assumption this would be a total disaster, but gladly, it exceeded expectations and delivered a really entertaining film that is fun for everyone to watch.

Overall, Goosebumps is very funny, smart and surprising. This is one that is more enjoyable than anyone could have ever imagined. This is definitely one I recommend checking out, especially if you are a fan of the books.
