The Last Witch Hunter (2015)

After a huge battle with a witch many years ago, Kaulder (Vin Diesel) has now become immortal and he is also a witch hunter. Even though Kaulder is about 800 years old, he still has people that he is really close with. Father Dolan (Michael Caine) is kind of like a partner to Kaulder, except for the fact that he does not do the hunting, he just finds the witches. One day, Father Dolan turns up dead and this really bothers Kauder because of how close they have been for years. He needs to get to the bottom of this and find out who has done this to Padre Dolan. Kaulder learns that this is a witch who is out to kill him and will kill anybody who comes in the way of her. He does however, need some assistance with this, so he finds trusted priest, Dolan 37 (Elijah Wood) and close friend, Chloe (Rose Leslie).

Where do I begin with this one? Is the movie awful or did they pull off making an awesome movie out of a ridiculous premise? The answer is that this movie is brutally painful to watch. There is absolutely nothing that is good about this film. It is hard to say that it is even entertaining in the least bit. The Last Witch Hunter lacks in almost every aspect and nothing is enjoyable about this at all. All I got out of this movie was that it was a complete time waster and nothing more than that. It is an absolute travesty that nobody should watch and I sure as hell won’t be sitting through this again. Everything about this movie is completely cheesy and very boring.

The acting in this movie is completely dreadful. For a somewhat strong cast, I was completely amazed at how awful everybody was, especially Vin Diesel. You would think that with all the obnoxious and ridiculous movies that we see Vin Diesel in, he would be better than he is, but sadly we get nothing but lazy and sloppy acting from him. The same goes for Elijah Wood and Rose Leslie. Rose Leslie has been in a few seasons of HBO’s, Game Of Thrones and she was a great character, but with The Last Witch Hunter, she is absolutely atrocious. I am confused as to why she was this bas because of how good she was in the show. And Elijah Wood? I’m just not going to touch on him, just know its pretty terrible.

The Last Witch Hunter should have been a really fun and energetic movie that was awesome, but whenever they could do something fun, they decide to just bore you. Everything about this movie was completely predictable. I found myself losing interest fifteen minutes into the movie. There was nothing that excited you throughout this film. Everything they tried to do was completely over-the-top and ridiculous. I think that if this movie was better it may have gotten a very big following. With a better director, writing and actors, The Last Witch Hunter could have been the next big franchise. Sadly, we will not see that because of how brutally bad this film actually was.

Overall, The Last Witch Hunter seems like it almost purposely tries to annoy you and make you bored. With terrible performances, awful directing and writing, The Last Witch Hunter is an absolute failure that you should erase out of your mind after you see it.

Fantastic Four (2015)

Growing up as a geek in school, Reed (Miles Teller) has always been interested in science and what he can do with it to make a serious impact on life. Now he is in high school and he finally gets his chance to show some people at his science fair what it is he is trying to do. After doing something pretty unbelievable, Dr. Franklin Storm (Reg E. Cathy) asks Reed if he would be interested in a full scholarship and coming to work for him. This offer is way too good to be passed up. Reed then teams up with Dr. Storms two children, Johnny (Michael. B. Jordan) and Sue (Kate Mara). Then there is also the help of Reeds buddy. Victor (Toby Kebbell). After working on a huge operation for some time, the four of them finally get their machine working and then something goes horribly wrong. All of them have something strange about them that is pretty unexplainable. This is something that will absolutely be stuck with them for the rest of their lives and together, they will be fantastic!

Some time has passed that this movie came out and I have been extremely hesitant of checking it out. Yes, I am a huge fan of Marvel movies, but with this one, I don’t really know what happened. Even with a promising cast, this movie still needed a lot of help, but before I get to the negative, let me first talk about the positive of this movie. About the first hour of this movie I really did not have any complaints about this movie. I thought it kicked off strong and was going to deliver another awesome Marvel flick, but sadly after the first hour, it turned to, pardon my language, shit! It took a turn for the worst and completely destroyed any hope that this movie actually had.

The acting was honestly not too bad in the movie, but it went nowhere and just got completely ridiculous and stupid. Miles Teller was fine in this. He is actually one of the big up-and-coming actors in my opinion. I think that he is capable of a lot and he is someone who we should look out for. Kate Mara has definitely been in the game for a while ever since she was a supporting cast member of Netflix’s original series, House Of Cards. It does seem like she chooses some bad movies though. She was fine in this, as well as the rest of the cast. I really can’t complain about them, but the movie itself just was awful.

This movie started off so strong and then had a disappointing last hour. It absolutely could not finish in the way we all wanted it to and hoped it would. This is a movie that without-a-doubt should be entertaining its audience from start to finish, but it could not do that. This movie needs a different director to help out because with such a good cast there is no reason it should suck as much as it does. To be brutally honest, it actually turns into a compete trainwreck that everyone was expecting. All the interesting stuff goes away after the first hour and then we are left with pure boredom and no entertainment or awesomeness at all. This is one you can absolutely skip and is very disappointing for all Marvel fans.

Overall, Fantastic Four is a complete travesty that even the strong cast could not help. This movie needed so much help and is one that I was horribly disappointed by.

Godzilla (2014)

Here’s a movie that came out this past summer that I really looked forward to seeing. Lieutenant Ford Brody (Aaron Taylor – Johnson), lost his mother (Juliette Binoche) in an accident involving radiation. We now fast forward 15 years and his father, Joe (Bryan Cranston) has been doing some research the past few years to try to figure out what made that incident happen. Once Brody is finished his service, something really bad is starting to go down. A giant creature is born and starts to destroy the city and everyone in it. The mad scientist behind this is  Dr. Serizawa (Ken Watanabe) and he tells everyone that this creature that is born is nothing compared to something else that is out there.

Godzilla is the movie that everyone has been waiting for. It’s been over ten years since that awful movie with Matthew Broderick came out. I don’t even want to discuss that movie. This movie was eagerly awaited and talked about for a while. I couldn’t wait for this one to come out and I thought it was pretty good. I was very happy with the way this turned out. I couldn’t go into it expecting all that much because of the way the last one was, but this is a huge step up from that.

This movie is one where director, Gareth Edwards had almost an unlimited budget. They wanted Godzilla to look awesome. When I saw this in theaters I thought the size and appearance of the monster was dynamite. The result of the monster was great. Having said that, this is where the movie ran into its problems. There was not enough of the monster in it.

If Godzilla was in it more, this would be an awesome movie. The whole movie all you want to see are scenes of Godzilla and we see very limited of those. When the monster is away from the screen, the movie drags a little bit, but is still good overall. The characters are not as interesting as I would like, but for all you Breaking Bad fans, Bryan Cranston was awesome while in this movie. He has proven that he can do it all.

Ultimately, Godzilla needed to have more of the monster on-screen. That is what this really comes down to. I think the movie would have been a lot better if they had it on-screen for a longer time. This movie was not a letdown by any means. I really enjoyed watching this and think that it is definitely worth seeing. I just wanted to see more of the monster. That is really my main concern with this movie. I think the director delivered a hell of a fun time to watch and when you heard the roar from Godzilla, people were kind of freaked out in the theaters.

Overall, Godzilla did its job to entertain you and make the watching experience a lot of fun. This is something that I recommend you check out sometime.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes (2014)

Wanna see an awesome action packed movie? This is one for you! If you are a fan of the first one you will absolutely love this. This one is set ten years after the first one ends and most of civilization is completely wiped out. The apes are finally able to live in the wilderness where they  belong. The apes have resided there for quite some time and they get sight of humans still living in the city and they feel they may need to act on this. The leader of the apes, Caeser (Andy Serkis) does not want to start a war wight them. He tells the humans that as long as they stay on their side of the bridge there will be no war. There is one problem with this. There is a generator that can bring back all the power in the city, but this is located right where the apes are living. Caeser is not happy about this, but one of the humans, (Jason Clarke) is able to connect with Caeser and let them know that the two of them can work together without anyone being harmed. One ape, Koba, (Toby Kebbell) does not like how Caeser is handling the situation this way and he decides to do something that will make him leader of the apes. Koba decides it’s time to go to war with the humans.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes is an incredibly awesome movie. You have no idea who you are rooting for in this movie. This is not a movie of right versus wrong or good versus bad. This is a movie where the act is definitely the enemy. Caeser and the humans do not want to go to war with each other. As soon as Koba took over, everything changed and all the apes had to listen to what he said. In its delivery of these ideas, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes gives us something that is very impressive.

It was incredible to see how the computers were able to make the apes look so realistic for what was not an animated movie. While watching this movie you feel as if you are the humans on earth. This is a re- boot that was done correctly and it may even be considered almost as good as the Dark Knight trilogy, but that is a whole other argument. The motion- capture of movies just keeps getting better and this was a perfect movie to notice it. Everything just looked too real and it was awesome.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes is something that has the audience amazed and wanting to see more. I can’t wait to see where they decide to go with the next one. This is a series that will be talked about for a long time to come.

Overall, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes is a movie you have to see the first one to better understand why all of this is happening. This movie was a summer blockbuster that makes an awesome movie watching experience. Two thumbs up!

Guardians of The Galaxy (2014)

This is what I’m talking about. Another Marvel movie that is just simply awesome. The movie starts with Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) watching his mother die of cancer. When he is home, he goes out into his backyard and is captured by a giant spaceship. We fast forward 25 years and now we see Peter much older, now going by the name of “Star- Lord.” Peter discovers a crystal ball that appears to be very dangerous. This crystal ball is very powerful and he decides he is going to try to sell it. We find Peter in town trying to sell that crystal ball and he meets a woman named Gamora, (Zoe Saldana) a giant tree named Groot, (Vin Diesel) and a raccoon that goes by the name of Rocket (Bradley Cooper). They end up fighting over this crystal ball. Peter, Gamora, Groot, and Rocket all end up in prison because of this. They meet a lot of people who give them a hard time. The crystal ball they were fighting over is being searched for by a very evil man named Ronan (Lee Pace). Peter, Gamora, Groot, and Rocket need to do whatever they can in order to try and save the galaxy.

Guardians of the Galaxy is a movie that has an awesome soundtrack. Peter was taken from earth when he was a young boy and his mother gave him a cassette tape before she died with a lot of 70’s music. All music ended in 1983 for him. We constantly see him with his Walkman cassette player listening to artists like David Bowie and the Jackson 5. Guardians of the Galaxy is just a fun movie populated by fun characters that keep you entertained and humored throughout the entire movie. The jokes in this movie are awesome and are laugh out loud jokes. This is one of the things that make it a better movie.

The acting was excellent. Chris Pratt was awesome as Peter Quill and Bradley Copper was great playing the voice of Rocket. Vin Diesel only spoke three words the entire movie by continuously saying, “I Am Groot!” Every time Diesel said that was hysterical. Guardians of the Galaxy is an awesome comedy that takes place in outer space. This was by far the best movie of the summer.

Guardians of the Galaxy is a movie that did not look interesting at all when watching the trailer. Going into this movie I had little to no interest, but after seeing it, it became one of my favorites of the year. Well directed and well acted on all parts. This is a movie I think is fun for everyone and everyone will enjoy it.

Overall, Guardians of the Galaxy is that awesome movie you are looking to see. If you want to enjoy the ride, laugh a lot, and hear some awesome music, this is the movie for you!
