Ant-Man (2015)

Here’s something I have been looking forward to seeing for a very long time. Billionaire, Dr. hank Pym (Michael Douglas) is a retired scientist that has created the formula and suit for the Ant-Man. Pym left the company in the hands of Darren Cross (Corey Stoll). Cross wants to figure put how to make this formula so the United States can wipe out any type of army. After realizing Cross is very close to figuring out the formula, Dr. Pym realizes he must act in a way that will stop Cross from doing this. Pym recruits Scott Lang (Paul Rudd). Lang has just been released from prison and needs any job he can so that he can be in his daughter’s life. Lang now becomes the Ant-Man and is trained by Pym and his daughter, Hope (Evangeline Lilly). The Ant-Man suit will allow him to shrink in size, have normal human strength and also control a huge army of ants. Lang must use his skills to stop Cross from releasing this formula and allowing the world to get their hands on it and using it as a terrible weapon.

This is a movie that I have been waiting for since I heard it was being made and I am so glad it did not disappoint. This is the new installment that Marvel has to offer and I think it kicked-ass. This is really a movie that gets the job done and is everything you want to see out of an awesome superhero movie. I also really have to touch on the humor in this movie because there were some scenes that were absolutely hysterical. This is one of the summer’s most entertaining and awesome movie’s that you will see. This has been one the world and all Marvel fans have been waiting for. Ant-Man provides the audience with so much entertainment, some awesome action scenes and great humor. Also, there are a lot of awesome visual effects.

The acting in Ant-Man is pretty solid and I think this may be the main reason this movie worked as well as it did. Knowing that Paul Rudd was the lead really scared me in the beginning. I did not think this was going to be the right role for him and that it would make the movie really bad. I was definitely wrong and I think that he really showed that he can not only be funny, but he can also be awesome and bad-ass. I really thought Michael Douglas was pretty solid in this. Going into this movie, I really didn’t understand why he was doing this, but he did not disappoint in any way and he was one of my favorite characters. Besides the movie being awesome, I think the solid acting we see help this movie surprise people in bigger ways than expected.

Ant-Man is probably one of the more funnier Marvel movies and it absolutely worked. The humor in this movie is just another thing piled on to what makes this movie as awesome as it was. It is really unbelievable that this worked as well as it did because it is definitely goofy in ways. This is just an all-around fun movie that even kids can enjoy. While this was aimed more towards teens and adults, this is absolutely something you can take your children to see and they will probably enjoy it as much as the adults. With the success of this movie, there is no doubt we are going to see a lot more of Ant-Man. This is one I definitely recommend going to see if you wanna be incredibly entertained or if you are a fan of the Marvel movies.

Overall, Ant-Man provides humor, entertainment and all kinds of awesomeness. We see good acting and some awesome visual effects. You will leave this wanting to see more of Ant-Man.

San Andreas (2015)

No Rock bottom in this, but he did hit someone with a pistol. Ray (Dwayne Johnson) drives a Los Angeles Fire Department rescue-helicopter. Ray is divorced and has plans to take his daughter, Blake (Alexandra Daddario) to college. After an earthquake hits the west coast, Ray cannot take his daughter to college and he needs to go work. When Blake is on her way to college, a massive earthquake hits San Francisco and leaves Blake trapped and in need of rescue. When Laurence (Paul Giamatti), a college professor who specializes in research of earthquakes finds out about this, he looks more into it and discovers that this earthquake is only the beginning and there is something much worse to come. Now, Ray and his ex-wife, Emma (Carla Gugino) are flying and driving all around San Francisco trying to find and save their daughter.

I am going to start off by saying that if you are looking to see an awesome 3D movie for the effects, this is definitely one you will want to check out. The story is kind of ridiculous and often over-the-top, but the effects you see in San Andreas are absolutely incredible. I did not really like this movie all that much, but I have to say there were some scenes that really entertained me. I feel like I have seen this movie done a few times already and there was nothing special about this movie that made me think that it was a masterpiece. I think San Andreas is a really average, mediocre film that just has awesome effects and that is what people are going to love about it.

The acting in San Andreas is not too great. I just laugh whenever “The Rock” speaks because every line he says is absolutely hysterical and completely ridiculous. Unlike Furious 7, there was no Rock bottom in this and that made me upset. I will say that compared to all of the other actors, Dwayne Johnson gave the best performance out of all of them and nothing about his performance was all that impressive, he was just a likable character that was really bad-ass. The only thing good about Gugino and Daddario are that they are just super good-looking and that’s why your eyes are on them the whole time and I think its obvious as to why they were casted for this movie.

San Andreas is just a movie that does nothing to really impress me and I think it is no more than an average, money-making movie that was made for that reason only. It is just very hard to not appreciate all of the effects in this movie because they are just awesome and unbelievable. If this was just a two-hour movie of effects, then I would have thought it was an excellent movie, but sadly it wasn’t. Other than the awesome action and special effects scenes, the movie as a whole was just boring and nothing is really memorable from this. This is a movie that you will want to see on the big screen because of the loudness and the incredible effects it has to offer. For a lower budget Blockbuster, the effects really impressed me.

Overall, San Andreas is not a great film by any means, but it is not all that terrible. It is just often boring and filled with lazy acting. If you go see this, just know that the effects will be awesome.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes (2014)

Wanna see an awesome action packed movie? This is one for you! If you are a fan of the first one you will absolutely love this. This one is set ten years after the first one ends and most of civilization is completely wiped out. The apes are finally able to live in the wilderness where they  belong. The apes have resided there for quite some time and they get sight of humans still living in the city and they feel they may need to act on this. The leader of the apes, Caeser (Andy Serkis) does not want to start a war wight them. He tells the humans that as long as they stay on their side of the bridge there will be no war. There is one problem with this. There is a generator that can bring back all the power in the city, but this is located right where the apes are living. Caeser is not happy about this, but one of the humans, (Jason Clarke) is able to connect with Caeser and let them know that the two of them can work together without anyone being harmed. One ape, Koba, (Toby Kebbell) does not like how Caeser is handling the situation this way and he decides to do something that will make him leader of the apes. Koba decides it’s time to go to war with the humans.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes is an incredibly awesome movie. You have no idea who you are rooting for in this movie. This is not a movie of right versus wrong or good versus bad. This is a movie where the act is definitely the enemy. Caeser and the humans do not want to go to war with each other. As soon as Koba took over, everything changed and all the apes had to listen to what he said. In its delivery of these ideas, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes gives us something that is very impressive.

It was incredible to see how the computers were able to make the apes look so realistic for what was not an animated movie. While watching this movie you feel as if you are the humans on earth. This is a re- boot that was done correctly and it may even be considered almost as good as the Dark Knight trilogy, but that is a whole other argument. The motion- capture of movies just keeps getting better and this was a perfect movie to notice it. Everything just looked too real and it was awesome.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes is something that has the audience amazed and wanting to see more. I can’t wait to see where they decide to go with the next one. This is a series that will be talked about for a long time to come.

Overall, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes is a movie you have to see the first one to better understand why all of this is happening. This movie was a summer blockbuster that makes an awesome movie watching experience. Two thumbs up!

Grade= A- (Awesome!)
