Welcome To Me (2015)

Here’s a new movie that was just recently released that I got a chance to see. I can’t wait until I hit the lottery. Alice Klieg (Kristen Wiig), has borderline personality disorder. Alice hits the lottery and decides that she wants to spend it on what she always wanted in life: her own talk show on television. In this talk show, Alice will have no one else on the show besides herself and she will just talk about her life and her feelings. A lot of people think she is crazy for wanting to do this. Alice will pay whatever price the network wants for her to have 100 episodes. The whole entire show is completely ridiculous and everyone a the network understand that except for Rich (James Marsden). The network is failing and they need a lot of money and since Alice can pay for it, Rich will take whatever he can get. Problems start to arise when the show starts getting insane and she starts to forget about the people who mattered to her the most.

Welcome To Me is a nice, little indie film that actually surprised me and was a pretty decent film. This was a really brave move for Kristen Wiig. Taking on the role of someone who is mentally ill is really a tough task and she really pulled this one-off. Wiig turned the role of Alice into a funny, dark and often frightening character. That just shows the good acting from Wiig. That’s the whole thing about this movie. The acting is so good and the rest is kind of just whatever. The movie itself is just okay and I think it could have done a few things differently to make this a lot better than it was. I was really excited to see this movie and I left more disappointed than satisfied.

The acting we see in Welcome To Me is fine. I really like how there is some big time actors in this movie. We see some small appearances from Tim Robbin, who is one of my favorite actors of all time and we also see people like, Joan Cusack and Wes Bentley. To be truly honest, the acting is what really saved this movie because the premise is very goofy and extremely ridiculous. The movie itself was not all that great and the acting is definitely not to blame for it. Everyone we see in this movie are their usual selves, meaning that they were fine and delivered nice performances. So we can definitely say the acting wasn’t the problem with this movie because I think most importantly, Wiig gave an outstanding performance and nailed this role.

The reason this movie was not all that great is because it just could not put the missing puzzle pieces together. What I mean by that is the fact that nothing really came together by the end with what are some great actors. Welcome To Me left me very disappointed throughout most of the film. I think that it started off really well and then just kind of got completely messy and boring in the second half of the movie. If you are a person who likes to just sit down and watch a nice, little movie then this is one for you. Other than that, this is no more than an okay movie with some really good acting to try to hold it together. I do think this is one that you should check out, not only because of all its hype, but it can be somewhat enjoyable to watch at times.

Overall, Welcome To Me may not have all the pieces of the puzzle together and the only reason it was as good as it was is strictly because of the actors. Nothing more than an okay movie!

The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

Here’s a movie that is undoubtably my favorite movie of all time. We meet Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), a young and successful banker who is sent to prison for life for the murder of his wife and her lover. When Andy is sent to Shawshank Prison, he isn’t very well liked by the other inmates at first, but they eventually come around to him when they realize he is a good guy. Andy makes a very good friend at Shawshank named Red (Morgan Freeman). Andy is very smart when it comes to money and the Warden and the guards take a real liking to Andy when they realize he can help them out. They start looking out for Andy because the Warden has him laundering money. Andy spends nearly two decades in Shawshank Prison until something happens. He becomes a very influential person at Shawshank Prison.

The Shawshank Redemption is definitely the greatest movie ever made. I love everything about this movie. It is damn – near – perfect. The acting in this was incredible. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman were absolutely superb in this. This movie is known to be a film of “Hope.” A saying from the movie is, “Fear can hold you prisoner, but hope can set you free.” This was the first movie that Frank Darabont directed. That is absolutely insane. This was the best movie he has ever made and he has his fair share of awesome ones.

I have probably seen this movie more than anyone else has seen it. Whenever this is on I can’t help but find myself watching the whole thing from start to finish. It is always a nice treat to watch this movie. If you have not seen this movie, you need to watch it ASAP. My dad and I have had countless viewings of this together. Frank Darabont gave us a movie that is absolutely awesome. I can’t begin to explain how incredible this movie actually is. The Shawshank Redemption is an absolute masterpiece.

If you are hesitant about seeing this movie, you need to change that attitude now. This is a movie that is so great that it demands multiple viewings. The whole entire story was excellent. Not only do we see how a man gets by in prison, but we see two people develop a great friendship over the course of twenty years. It has a message that is meant to inspire everyone who watches it. The acting, directing, and writing are all phenomenal. I can’t say one thing negative about this movie because there is nothing wrong with it.

Overall, The Shawshank Redemption is a movie that you will absolutely fall in love with. If you haven’t seen it before, go On Demand right now and watch it. I promise you it will not disappoint.

Grade= A (Excellent! A Must See!)

High Fidelity (2000)

Wanna watch a movie with a fun story and awesome music? This might be one you want to check out. Record store owner, Rob Gordon (John Cusack) is dumped by his girlfriend, Laura (Iben Hjejle). Rob has not changed one bit since they met and Laure feels she can’t waste her time with him anymore and decides to move on with her life. Rob takes us through his top – five breakups of all time so he can try and figure out exactly what went wrong with his relationship with Laura. Rob gets in contact with all the girls that he formally dated and while doing this, he continues to try and win Laura back.

High Fidelity is a movie that is very funny and tells a good story about a man who can’t stay in a relationship because of the way he goes through life. John Cusack was awesome in this. Jack Black plays a guy who works in the record store that Rob owns and he gives us a hysterical performance that leaves you laughing with every scene he is in. This movie was definitely the start to Jack Black’s acting career. Joan Cusack also has a small role in this. It was pretty cool to see the siblings acting together. I haven’t seen another movie where these two were in it together.

This movie is a romantic comedy that is filled with a lot of fun. As you watch High Fidelity, you realize that while it is funny, the story is much more than that. The record store is obviously failing as a business and Rob needs to do something to get his life in order. With Laura leaving, Rob is left with an apartment that he can’t afford that is filled with records. While this may be his passion, he needs to figure out another way of making some money.

High Fidelity is the movie you want to watch if you are in for a good time and want to laugh your ass off. The soundtrack for this movie is awesome and you will sing along. This soundtrack has artist’s from Bruce Springsteen to Bob Dylan. I think this is why this movie works as well as it does. I noticed this with a lot of movies that deal with music. If you have a killer soundtrack, you will enjoy the movie more. It’s as simple as that.

Overall, High Fidelity is a movie that is entertaining and gives you a lot of laughs. I think this is one you should check out some time.
